We are looking for an experienced Grade Checker to join our grading crew. This position supports earthwork operations by checking elevations, slopes, and layout to ensure work is performed according to plans and specifications.
Responsibilities
• Check grades and elevations for rough and finish grading
• Work directly with operators running blades, dozers, loaders, and scrapers
• Set grade stakes, hubs, and string lines as needed
• Read and interpret grading plans and civil drawings
• Use grade rods, lasers, and other surveying equipment
• Use Trimble GPS equipment in the field to verify grades and layout
• Set up Trimble GPS base station, establish control points, and check elevations using GPS rover
• Communicate clearly with the foreman and operators to maintain proper grades and slopes
• Monitor progress and ensure work stays within tolerance
Requirements
• Experience as a grade checker on earthwork / grading projects
• Ability to read grading plans and understand elevations, slopes, and offsets
• Experience using Trimble GPS systems for grade checking and layout (base, rover, control setup)
• Familiar with lasers, grade rods, and basic surveying tools
• Reliable and able to work in a fast-paced field environment
• Good communication with operators and crew
Preferred
• Experience working with blades, scrapers, and earthmoving crews
• Understanding of civil grading plans and site development
• Willing to travel Southern California for work. Mainly Orange County, Los Angeles County, & Riverside County.
Work is primarily earthwork and site grading.
