Casting # 3731548 -- This is an early ’57 283 with no side motor-mount bosses. The block was cast on February 15th and the engine was built on February 20th, configured with a Powerglide transmission. It has been bored 0.125” over and used with 4.000” pistons for a displacement of 301 cubic inches. Some cylinder walls show some slight scratching. It might possibly be used as-is after cleanup with a glaze buster. Better, for a ’57 Chevrolet in all-original configuration, would be a full eight-hole sleeve job back to the standard bore.
