Today for your consideration is an all original 1978 left-handed Stratocaster. The pots codes are 1977, but the headstock serial number is a 78, so technically, it's a '78. The frets are in fantastic condition, with minimal wear for a '70s strat. And it comes with the original Ash tray cover. For its age, I'd say it's in excellent condition. I also gave it a fret dressing and saddle dressing. Price firm at $3,900 She's ready to go. This is the real thing, not custom shop. Very sweet sounding neck pickup. The first 2 points below make this guitar unique:
1). Most late 70s strats are built from some of the heaviest ash that guitars have ever been built from but luckily there were a few diamonds in the rough. You'll find the average late 70s Strat to weigh anywhere between 9.5 and 10.5 lbs, but this one here is a hair over 8 lbs 2 oz !! You'd be hard pressed to find a lighter lefty '70s Strat.
2). In addition to having this unique lightweight quality, this is the only left handed 1970s Strat I have ever come across with a natural body and rosewood fingerboard. All the natural bodied 70s strats in Lefty I have seen had 'maple' fingerboards. I believe it to be a true unicorn. The real rosewood fingerboard feels so much better than the rosewood-type of wood they use today.
3). All 3 pickups, 5-way switch, nut, frets, tuning pegs, bridge, tremolo assembly, and jack are all original to the guitar. Pickups were transferred onto a worn in white pickguard with worn in pickup covers that's on there now. And also, it now has all new "lefty" CTS pots and new gold-numbered, white "lefty" Fender knobs (numbers are in order of left handed style, where in lefty world, the stamped numbers are in reverse order from right handed knobs).
4). The guitar comes with its original black pickguard, original 'right-handed' wiring harness/pots, black pickup covers and original black switch tip. However, only the black volume knob is original. (there is NO plastic backplate cover!!). So, you can put it back onto the original state if you prefer, but I'm sure you'll never do so, as it's a fantastic lefty guitar as is.
Pickup Resistance (according to my multi-meter from chord plugged into guitar jack): B 5.52k M 5.71k N 5.58k
5). The original left handed Fender hard case is included, which if fully functional and in great shape.
as well as the original Fender strap from the '70s.
6). The left handed tremolo arm may or may not be original (as it has a white tip). But works just fine.
7) On the original right-handed wiring/pots that are on the 'black pickguard', the middle tone pot shaft has some fine wrapped wire to fill the space, so that the plastic tone knob can grip the inside shaft. But both tone knobs functionally work just fine, and taper the tone like they should.
8). The neck on this guitar is one of the best feeling necks in the hand, as it fills up your palm space like a glove.
9) And...if you don't care for natural look, it's easier to get it re-fin in 3-tone or any other color when starting with natural wood.
