HERE IS SOME INFO ON THE MARSHALL LEE JACKSON MOD
This exceptional 1982 Marshall JCM 800 2203 was modded by the legendary Lee Jackson at Metaltronix in January 1986. It remains very clean for its age, with the mod untouched and original integrity in tact.
HAS A EFFECTS LOOP !!!
This amplifier delivers some incredible sounds with a wide variety of tones, thanks to its dual master volumes, a 4th pre amp tube, and a mid rotary select switch. The second master volume on the rear is easily engaged by pulling the knob.
Lee Jackson’s Marshall mods were highly regarded and in high demand in the 80’s as guitarists like Kirk Hammett, Zakk Wylde, George Lynch, Yngwie Malmsteen and many others sought out Jackson's expertise to achieve specific tonal characteristics and higher gain, playing a significant part in shaping the sound of rock and metal during that era. This is a rare and authentic example of his work, which is done on what’s regarded as the best era JCM 800 (‘81-‘83) and has been very well preserved. The tolex is very clean as well! This must have been a studio piece for most or all of its life I would assume?
Here are the benefits of a Marshall JCM 800 modified by Lee Jackson in the 1980s:
- Increased Gain: The addition of a fourth preamp tube typically allows for higher gain, creating a more saturated and aggressive sound.
- Enhanced Tone Control: Component changes in the circuit can provide more versatility in shaping the tone, often resulting in a thicker, warmer sound.
- Improved Dynamics: The modifications often improve the amp's responsiveness, allowing for greater dynamic range and touch sensitivity.
- Smoother Overdrive: The mods can create a smoother overdrive characteristic, making it more suitable for both lead and rhythm playing.
- Tighter Bass Response: Many players report a tighter and more controlled low end, enhancing clarity while maintaining fullness.
- Increased Output Volume: Modifications can sometimes boost the overall output volume, allowing the amp to compete in live settings without sacrificing tone.
- Reduced Noise: Careful modifications can lead to a quieter operation, reducing hum and unwanted noise traditionally associated with high-gain settings.
- Improved Sustain: The modifications can enhance sustain, allowing notes to ring out longer, which is especially beneficial for solos.
- Richer Harmonics: Jackson modified JCM 800s offer richer harmonic content, contributing to a more complex and pleasing sound.
