The KAM R3 microphone has a classic warm tone. Like all KAM microphones, the R3 will not suffer from phantom power. Metal Micro-Shield: The aluminum ribbon element in all ribbon microphones is sensitive and can be damaged by high-velocity airflow. Most ribbon microphones use a cloth or nylon mesh on both sides of the ribbon to protect it. Unfortunately, this absorbs 2 to 3 dB of high frequencies. The R3 features a metal micro-shield with very fine metal wires that is virtually transparent to all frequencies, but protects the ribbon element better than cloth or nylon mesh. The KAM R3 is designed to reproduce the tone of vintage ribbon microphones in a rugged, easy-to-use, modern look. The housing is rugged to protect the ribbon element. The capsule section is completely separate from the bottom of the housing to prevent sound reflections inside the housing from affecting the purity of the output signal. The size and shape of the magnet in a ribbon microphone determines the high frequency response and output strength.
