Most of the New Classic Maple (NCM) drum shells you see listed are of the very common plastic wrapped kind. I played a Glass Nitron wrap (gold sparkle, like the one shown in the brochure) for several years, then decided to upgrade to one of their premium finishes, which is lacquer or stain with a clear coat. This is your opportunity to get the Gretsch NCM snare that matches the rest of your set!
Gretsch drums, especially the NCM play, sound and look AMAZING!
Gretsch has been producing high quality drums since 1883 and their New Classic Maple (NCM) line is no exception. They feature maple shells, die cast hoops (on toms and snare drum) and their trademark silver inner shell sealant. The special classic dual post tube lugs are even exact replicas of the original Billy Gladstone design from the 1930s. Since the NCM line made it’s debut in the early 2000s, other drum manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon, offering their own retro designs.
In addition to their drums, Gretsch has a reputation for their fine string instruments.
A Gretsch factoid: Many well known, famous drummers play the kits they use on stage, whether Ludwig, Tama, DW, Pearl, etc..., because of their product endorsement agreements, but when the time comes to actually lay down tracks in the studio, most prefer doing it on a Gretsch. They know "That Great Gretsch Sound" sings out, and produces that balanced tone requiring very little to no EQ adjustments on the recording console, practically no signal processing is necessary.
In addition to its neoclassical aesthetics, Gretsch created the NCM line to give drummers access to the same build quality, sonic result, and playability as with their Brooklyn, USA Custom, and Renown lines. The downside was that Gretsch was losing revenue and thus, ceased NCM production in 2017 making the NCM line a collector's dream. The upside is that unlike the above mentioned lines, the NCM has that 1930s classic dual-post tube lug style, but post 2000, hence, their name New - Classic.
Because Gretsch is no longer producing the NCM line they are extremely hard to find and especially in this condition. Other Gretsch NCM drums I've seen for sale are usually all banged up. This one is in Excellent condition. Sure, you can spend less money on far less quality but you won't get that great Gretsch sound, the playability or the classic lugs.
Better snap up this special, rare snare drum while you still can because if you don't, we're sure someone else will.
