Update - bench open for your amp!
Has your Champ lost its punch?
Is your Super Reverb not sounding so…super?
Is your Princeton Reverb flunking??
Is your Marshall on the highway to hell?
Does your vibrato thump and tick?
Is your tube amp blowing fuses or suffering from scratchy controls?
I’m Frank and I run Forgotten Gear Restorations (on Yelp!), a small and professional shop that that offers repair and restoration services to those with ailing guitar amplifiers. I charge no bench fee for intake. Many brick and mortar shops are overwhelmed with amps and are charging $100+ bench fees to dissuade you from getting in their months-long queue. I whip around repairs quickly.
For the past 20 years, I’ve focused on guitar amplification with a concentration on vintage Fender, Marshall, Vox, Gibson, Lectrolab, and other amps. I have dedicated thousands of bench hours to breathing new life into both inexpensive and priceless amps alike and I treat them all with the same level of professionalism they deserve. I also enjoy working on the newer Fender’s such as Blues Jrs, Devilles, and the whole hotrod lineup. I know their weaknesses and shortcomings and I can implement solutions to help bulletproof them against future failures.
Like many in the tech industry, I work from home, so I conduct my operation here and enjoy very little business overhead, which I pass along to you as savings. I usually end up being 25-35% less than others in my field - so you would typically save $100+ coming to me and you’d get the expert service and detail you’d expect from a guitarist who’s also an experienced electronics engineer.
I offer very quick turnaround time and usually complete most amp servicing within 48 hours, provided I don’t have to special order a part that’s not in inventory. Another thing that distinguishes my service from others’ is that I provide a detailed analysis of your amp from input to output and will supply you with photo documentation of your amp’s failed components before we move forward with service – and you get your specific amp’s failed parts back in a little ziplock – not some other amp’s parts. All services include:
- Input and output jack cleaning and re-tensioning if required
- Tube socket cleaning and re-tensioning if required
- Potentiometer cleaning and lubrication
- Decontamination of chassis and cabinet
- Bias check and adjust if required
- Hardware check
- Detailed analyses and both immediate and future recommendations
Again, I offer quick turnaround time, as I focus on one customer at a time and I stock the best parts available including Vintage/NOS Allen Bradley resistors, Mallory, Sprague, Vishay, CE, and F&T and more. No one goes as deep; no one cares as much about making things right; no one spends the time I do to make sure it's done right the first time. I take care of all the little things. I’m very responsive to emails and texts, so let me know how I can help get your forgotten gear back up to spec!
