Black trunk Mule palms are one of the most exciting tropical looking cold hybrids that we can grow in California. Some say they even resemble a coconut once established.
This tropical looking hybrid which is a cross between a Syagrus romanzoffiana(queen palm) and a Butia capitata (Pindo Palm) can take temps all the way down to 10F. Brrrrrr that's cold!! Not only can it handle cold it can also handle temperatures as high at 124F. Dang that's hot!!!! I have personally seen mule palms growing in such harsh places to grow palms as: Napa valley, Monterey bay, San Francisco, Valley center, palm Springs, all over the inland empire, Tucson Arizona, phoenix Arizona, San Tee, Lake side, Temecula, ETC. This palm is no joke tough!!

This palm has hybrid vigor!! They are very fast growing once they are established in the ground. Mule palms are the world's most frost hardy pinnate-leaved palms you can grow in our gardens. Most people sell the green trunk version but I specialize in only selling the rarer Black trunk variety.

The Mule Palm, X Butiagrus nabonnandii, is the most beautiful of all the frost tolerant pinnate-leaved palms in the world. The rarity of the black trunk mule palm is a must have for the colder or warmer climate gardens giving you that coconut like feel.
