Michael Gorman (b. 1963) is a prominent painter whose work embodies the ethos of post-war America. Drawing on influences from the American West, particularly Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, Gorman integrates dynamic energy with Jungian archetypes, establishing himself as a mythmaker, explorer, and poet. His use of neon signs, semi-abstract forms, and layered textures communicates both optimism and disillusionment. The synthesis of formal and informal elements aligns his practice with American artists such as Ed Ruscha, Cy Twombly, Jasper Johns, and Robert Rauschenberg. Beneath the vivid surfaces of his paintings, a sense of romance and vulnerability emerges, evocative of a desert sunset.
