Conures are small to medium-sized parrots native to South America, known for their long tails, strong beaks, and playful personalities. They are intelligent, social, and active birds that enjoy human interaction and can be taught tricks.
Size: Range from 8–20 inches depending on species, with green-cheeked and black-capped being the smallest and Patagonian the largest.
Appearance: Colorful, with long tails and horn-colored or black beaks.
Personality: Playful, affectionate, and comical, but can be loud and squawky.
Lifespan: 20 years, but can live up to 30 with proper care.
Diet: Formulated diet with daily supplements of chopped fruits and vegetables.
Care: Provide clean water, daily playtime outside their habitat, and opportunities for bathing.
Behavior: Can learn to speak a few words, but are not known to be avid talkers.
Biting: May bite when excited, confused, or threatened. Put the bird down in a safe area and walk away to discourage the behavior.
Gender: Male and female conures look identical and can only be distinguished through blood testing.
Species: Maroon-belly, green-cheek, peach-fronted, and dusky conures.
