Beware of Unlicensed Contractors
Any contractor performing more than $500 of work, parts and labor combined, is required to be licensed, background checked and educated in the consumer laws for the State of California.
All Contractors Must Post their License Number in Every Advertisement
You can look up the contractor at the California State License Board. https://www2.cslb.ca.gov/OnlineServices/CheckLicenseII/checklicense.aspx All licensed contractors have a bond of at least $15,000 to repair, complete or redo any mistakes that they perform. Unlicensed contractors have no bond, no guarantees and if you think about it, how come they cannot get a contractor’s license? Are they felons? Do they have burglaries on their records? Do they have violent crimes on their records?
You have no recourse if an unlicensed contractor damages your home
-They can’t get insurance.
-Your insurance company can deny the claim if you knowingly hire them and they damage your home
-You can sue them, if you can find them, but if they don’t have the knowledge and the money to become a licensed contractor how much money can they actually have? Could they pay $100,000 if a fire occurs?
Report Unlicensed Contractors here
The second picture is the form for reporting unlicensed contractors. Let’s stomp out fraud together!
Caution, this is how they can fool people
If they state that their technicians are certified. It isn't true. There is no such thing as a technician certification. Technicians can be certified to work with PEX pipe, CSST pipe, Refrigerants and more, but there is no such thing from the State of California for a "Technician Certification."

If they state that there plumbers or technicians are licensed, they are not telling the truth. The only license issued by the State of California for contractors is a contractor's license, not a technician license.

Technicians and plumbers, if they sell anything, must be listed and background checked and then will receive a "HIS" Home Improvement Salesperson, but this does not test or prove their abilities to diagnose, repair or perform preventative maintenance.
