If you love technology, have solid shop skills, and previous youth teaching / mentoring experience, we need your help as a full or part-time instructor. Formal teaching credentials are not required, but enthusiasm, a willingness to learn new technology, and strong desire to contribute to the youth of tomorrow is definitely required. We provide training in all areas of the program to ensure instructors are completely capable of supporting the program. Position reports to Education Director and Manager.
Our youth program uses a highly developed, proprietary curriculum that is well defined and supported. Instructors are expected to prepare for their individual classes (materials and tools from our onsite inventory) as well as work with the students and clean up / restock after class.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Start each class fully prepared and on time with amazing energy and enthusiasm
- Teach class content as directed but always be looking for ways to improve it
- Teach and demonstrate makerspace safety rules, policies, and etiquette
- Inform shop or management team of any equipment, materials, or documentation issues
- Promote our special offers and up sells at the end of class
REQUIREMENTS
- Shop and/or maker experience with tools and electronics
- Available weekday days, some weekend days, and have a flexible schedule.
- Able to commit to complete calendar year schedule
- Pass Live-scan background check
- Must be friendly, enthusiastic, and the type of person with patience working with teens
- Able to remain confident/calm with groups of students using large power tools
- Mechanically inclined with good shop and computer skills
- Must present a professional image, be courteous and organized, and reliable
- Manage class paperwork (student / teacher evaluations, attendance, student pass / fail)
- Good communication skills with parents and families
- Able to think on the fly when a project goes wrong, tool breaks, or part is missing
