This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was purchased new and spent its life in Southern CA since 1969. The current owner acquired the car in 2013 and has reupholstered the cabin, fit a new soft top. the engine includes a four-speed manual transmission, a new black convertible top, a removable hardtop, four-wheel power-assisted disc brakes, power steering, and air conditioning. This W113 Pagoda is now offered on behalf of the owner with a clean California title.
The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq. This example is wearing its original shade of Signal Red paint, having never needing restoration and maintained by collectors since new. Features include a new black soft top, a body-color removable hardtop, US-specification headlights, and a retractable antenna.
The car is equipped with power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and independent suspension, all of which have been overhauled during the last 12 years.The cabin was reupholstered during current ownership and features bucket seats trimmed in Black MB-Tex that extends to the door panels. Interior appointments include a Becker Europa radio, an analog clock, a floor-mounted gear selector, and air conditioning.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 140-mph speedometer and a 6,500-rpm redline tachometer, as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer is original with the original miles since new indicated.
The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six was factory equipped with Bosch fuel injection and was rated at 180 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque when new and is linked with a four-speed automatic transmission. Pictures taken during the compression test show 140-150 PSI in every cylinder. The engine has been maintained with regular maintenance, all records since 1985 can be viewed in the photo gallery.
If you are looking for the ultimate in Survivor type collectable, this is it. It will outshine restored cars at almost every level of show competition.
