Hello, my 24 year old brother who has autism has never had a job, but he has expressed interested in one (though, it seems to me that the interest is half hearted, but my bias could be coloring that perception). He is higher functioning but lacks social skills.
The only thing he wants to do in life is painting and he's been in community college to get an Art degree for the last 6 years. My family is low income and we can't keep supporting him to go to school if he keeps failing half his classes every semester.
My parents are getting old and I've tried to do and say everything to help him help himself, but I haven't been able to see much meaningful change or intrinsic motivation become independent despite him explicitly saying that he would like to live independently one day.
If you have advice about how to help someone who can't get past the interview phase, resources for companies that help people with autism get jobs, suggestions, literally anything at all please send them my way.
