We brought a lot of silver items from England when we moved to America in the early 1970's. These regal sterling silver gilt spoons have been in our family over 100 years and were handed down to our granny and eventually to our mum, who has passed on and left us with more things than we have space for.

Four photos were added of the spoons in sunlight for comparison lighting.

David Andersen, the pre-eminent Norwegian enamel silversmith, was founded during the 'Kristiania', Norway period in 1876. During that time, Andersen became a (the?) provider of jewelry to the Crown Prince of Norway. (Note: In 1876/77 the spelling changed to Kristiania from Christiania, then in 1925 it reverted to the original Oslo name (ca. 1024))

Upon David Andersen's death in 1901, his son took over and changed the family and company names to the now hyphenated "David-Andersen" to honor his father. Thus, since this Kristiania box has no hyphen in the name, and based on the handle stamped maker's mark, it's fair to approximate the set's age as late 1800's to 1901.

These rare, wonderfully colored, guilloche enamel and silver gilt spoons measure 6" (inches) long. They are hallmarked and stamped as being 925 silver. The handles are enameled on both sides as they transition beautifully to the gold wash on the spoon bowls which have detailed guilloche enamel with scalloped, starburst backs.

The enamel is perfect to the touch. I see no damage or repair, nor any signs of obvious wear. The silver gilt is also in good order and is unpolished, as I have been scolded for tidying antique silver/gold items prior to selling. Some collectors prefer the charm of aged patina.

The artful spoons (Viking style aka: "Dragestil") are within their extremely rare, original, marked and fitted box with 'stay/pop open' spring hinge fully functional as new. There is a small, potentially cleanable, stain on the inner left-side lining but otherwise the box is incredibly well preserved, including the front locking clasp. It has very minimal wear on the outer casing, which baffles my mind due to its age.

This unusually uncommon, and complete, spoon set from the "short-lived" Kristiania period is in very good +++ used vintage condition and would compliment a collection very nicely.
