Athos character jug modeled by Max Henk and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1956-1991. Athos is a fictional character in the novels "The Three Musketeers", "The Vicomte de Bragelonne", and "Twenty Years After" by Alexandre Dumas. In "The Three Musketeers", he, and two other Musketeers, Porthos & Aramis, become friends of the novel's protagonist, D'Artagnan who desperately wants to become a Musketeer. He has a past connecting him with the villainess Milady de Winter. The oldest by some years, Athos is a father figure to the other musketeers. He is described as noble and handsome, a polished aristocrat of glorious ancestry, but also secretive, drowning his concealed sorrows in drink. By the end of the novel, it is revealed that he is the Comte de la Fere, who was Milady's husband before she had married the Baron de Winter. A handle of a sword forms the handle of this jug. This is the large size. A small size (D6452) and miniature size (D6509) were also produced.
