Rare Imperial German Court Degen Sword, circa 1796-1820
Total length: 35 5/8".
Unmarked 31 1/4" sturdy blade is 3/4" wide. Distinct medial ridge. This may be an older blade mated to this 1820's handle.
Folding reverse plane brass guard with fixed obverse brass front guard.
Distinct copper finely wired grip.
Sword is all tight and functional.
Evidence of cleaning to the blade long ago with some remaining pitting.
Brass handle has been cleaned long ago or kept clean and is taking on a nice mellow patina.
No scabbard.
A beautiful and well made sword.
Similar to British 1796 Infantry Officer's Sword (single edge blade) and also the Imperial Russian M1797 Infantry Officer's Sword (double edge blade with alternate pommel).
