Are you dying of heat but don't want to spend $500 or more on a new A/C unit, because... well.. reasons? How about spending less but for a brand new trashy no brand unit that will die in two days? No?
Here I a have a solution for your trouble!
This is an used one, but older and awesome model that is not made anymore. It works. How well it works? Ok, so this is not a new one, so lets adjust our expectations. However, I was surprised. I have tested it (see pictures) and found that it drops the air temperature from 75F to 62F, and that is respectable 13 degrees! This is a lot as far as survival in hot climate goes. This is pretty much a difference between sticking to your bed sheet and comfortably sleeping, may be even cozying up under some light blanket.
I play no games. If you think you can cool a house with this, it won't happen, simply because the total power is 9000 BTU/hour. But, if you need to cool down a small room, yes, this will do!
When you buy a used A/C, here is what you want to know:
- does it work? Yes! 13F drop, measured, see pictures.
- is there a mechanical/electrical/hvac issue? NO! The unit was inspected, no leaks, no shorts, everything functions.
- is it all plugged up on the inside with old disgusting dust? NO! I opened it up and cleaned it out for you, washed it with simple green, vacuumed out and wiped with alcohol. see pictures.
- is there a remote? YES! New cells, cleaned, tested to work.
- is there a mounting/vent kit? Sort of. See pictures. There is a "compatible" pipe and flange. You will have to figure out yourself how you going to route the hot air vent out of the window. Original piping is missing/lost. But, I'd say you pretty much have everything you really need. Add some duct-tape / creativity and you're in business!
- what functions does it have?
---remote power on/off (power ON LED does not seem to work)
---remote temperature control up/down
---remote louvers / vent direction control up/down
---remote fan control
---remote mega-cool mode on/off
---remote ion air mode on/off
---remote de-humidification mode on/off
---remote timer control
---remote lights on/off (doesn't work, or I could not do it)
---removable filter screens
---water overfill float sensor with alarm (drains are at the back, the usual)
---caster wheels
---GFI equipped power plug
---6 ft power cord
-is there a warranty? Come on.. there is none. I love this unit. I think it is awesome. I asked everybody of someone needs an A/C before posting it here, because I did not want to let it go. Like I said, they don't make them like this anymore. I tested it, it works. No serious issues noticed. But, anything can happen in life. You buy it, - it is yours, forever.
-scratches, marks, small plastic features broken? Of course. Mostly, just marks and tape tracks. I decided not to detail the outside, because you probably want to save the money and give it a wipe with Orange Goo Remover yourself (or leave as is), instead of having me do it. But on the inside, I have done it already. The little hook on the back, where the remote should be stored is broken off. Also the cord storage hook is broken. Ah, and one of the rubber plugs on the back has lost it's tail.
I can email you the user manual, if desired.
All in all, I haven't seen anything like this in a while. Nice, multi functional model from SHARP, that would cost you next to a grand these days, and still works. I think, maybe when it was new, it could drop the air about 15 degrees F, may be. I think if you want to spend just a little and have some relief from the hot weather, this is your ticket, no doubt.
